Coach Michael Villagrana enters his 1st year as Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball program at Monterey Peninsula
College. He is excited to be taking over the women’s program and leading MPC’s future
student athletes. This is Coach Mike’s 12th season as an MPC basketball coach, having
served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for 11 years under Coach Blake Spiering.
Coach Mike is a local product who played four years of varsity basketball at Marina
High School. While at Marina High he was a team captain all four years and played
under Coach Carson Padon, who also had the privilege of coaching with Blake Spiering
at Monterey Peninsula College. After high school, Coach Mike attended California State
University, Monterey Bay. At CSUMB, he was a Pay It Forward Scholar and received his
Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Wellness. He later attended
Concordia University, Irvine and received his Master's Degree in Coaching and Athletic
Administration.
Coach Mike has played an essential role in developing many student athletes, including
All Conference players and several players transferring on to Division I,II,III and
NAIA Universities. He believes in the academic and athletic development of student
athletes at the junior college level. He values his time towards mentoring and empowering
every new cohort of student athletes that pursue their education and athletic journey
at MPC.
Coach Mike has been an instructor in MPC’s Kinesiology department over the last five
years. He is passionate about working in the community and has been active in working
for the local school district (MPUSD) as well as the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey
County.
Coach resides in Marina with his wife (Jasmine) and three daughters (Giselle, Madison
& Malina).
Assistant Coach
