Coach Mark Cisneros enters his fifth year as MPC’s men's head soccer coach, after
taking over the program in 2021. In addition to coaching at MPC, Cisneros also coaches
the Alisal High School Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team in Salinas, Ca., where he is also
a full-time teacher. Cisneros is a thirty-year classroom veteran, teaching English
at the high school and college levels, including at Rio Hondo College and Hartnell
College. In addition to an extensive teaching career, Cisneros has been coaching youth
sports for over thirty years, at all levels, including the semi-professional soccer
ranks with the Salinas Valley Samba in 2010.
Coach Cisneros is a recipient of the Golden Whistle, a local award presented by KSBW.
In 2016, Cisneros earned the “Coach of the Year” award, presented by the California
Coaches Association. Cisneros has been nominated for Teacher of the Year seven times
and has been the Keynote Speaker at Alisal High School’s graduation ceremony and at
Cal State Monterey Bay’s “Now More Than Ever” California Teachers Summit.
MPC’s Soccer Program continues to grow under Cisneros’ guidance, with a broad number
of recruits coming in from further distances, with many more expressing strong interest
in becoming student-athletes at MPC. Cisneros has compiled a solid coaching staff,
all with playing experience at the college and university levels, including Taft College,
Cabrillo College, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Sacramento State. In addition, Cisneros
has also built solid relationships with the school’s departments that dedicate a great
deal of assistance to our student-athletes, including the First Year Experience Club
and El Centro. These relationships help his soccer players gain broader access to
financial assistance and college preparedness.
